Connect

Last updated October 8, 2026

The Home tab has a large round button. Tap it to connect to the active profile, and tap again to disconnect. No profile yet? Add one first.

First connection

iPhone, iPad and Mac. On first connection, the system asks whether to add a VPN configuration — allow it. It asks once; if you decline, the app reminds you: “You can’t connect without VPN permission”. After Reset client, the system asks again.

Windows and Linux. Nothing to allow: the connection is kept up by the cosmos-client-daemon service, installed together with the app. If the tray says “Service not running”, see the FAQ.

What the button shows

Label Ring color What’s happening
No profile dimmed gray No profile added — tapping opens adding one
Connect gray VPN is off
Connecting orange The app loads the settings and connects
Connected green VPN is on
Disconnecting gray VPN is turning off

When connected

  • At the top — connection time and how much was sent and received this session.
  • At the bottom — the active profile and its expiry; tapping it opens the Profiles tab.
  • Below the profile — the server’s country with its flag, if the server reports it. If not — the profile’s servers with latency: a green dot is up to 150 ms, orange is more, gray means the server is unreachable.

VPN works without the app open

On iPhone, iPad and Mac, VPN keeps working when you close the app — turn it off with the button, in the widget or in system settings.

On Windows and Linux, closing the window hides it to the tray, and the service keeps VPN on. Quit in the tray menu closes the app but doesn’t turn VPN off — use Disconnect for that.

Switching profiles and updates

When you pick another profile or fresh settings arrive, VPN switches to them without turning off. More in Profiles.

You can also connect and disconnect without opening the app — with the widget, Siri Shortcuts or from the tray: Quick access.

If it doesn’t connect

An error message appears at the bottom of the screen and tells you what to do. Common cases are in the FAQ.
